This trekking is slightly longer trek that required high effort everyday to complete the route. Both in terms of Altitude and Trail, the trek is quite difficult for most trekkers. Trekking to Annapurna Circuit involves crossing of Thorong La Pass at an altitude of 5,416M / 17,769FT which can cause altitude sickness to travelers from sea level. An easy, gentle and slow ascending is recommended to reduce the chances of altitude sickness. The trail is wide, clear and astounding due to several factors. As we complete steep uphill, the risks of dry landslide will also become higher. We will need to be aware of stones falling down from the cliffs. Once we cross this risky area the route again becomes gentle up before we reach Phedi. We can stay here tonight and prepare crossing the pass, continuing for another 40-45 minutes will take us to high camp which is about 400 meters higher than Phedi.

Day 12: Trek to Muktinath via Thorong Pass

Either we start from Phedi or High Camp we will have to start our breakfast early in the morning. It is a challenging and special day too. Once we get our breakfast we will start our trek with torches. The walk can be slippery so we have to be aware of risks. With amazing views around us we will be walking in the middle surrounded by huge white peaks. There are no lodges or hotels along the way so we have to carry some meals with us. There are two tea shops which offers 'world's most expensive tea' but that's special. A warm tea in this altitude and in this place is so special. Walking for few hours we will reach the highest point of the trek named 'Thorong La' means a pass. It won't be difficult to recognize the pass as it's surrounded by praying flags. We will enjoy some hot tea here and start walking steep downhill towards Muktinath. It is steep downhill walk with some mountain views far sight. Once we walk about 1600 meters down we will reach Muktinath; our destination for tonight. Enjoy some lunch here and explore this small town.

Sikha is a small village with countable numbers of lodges available for trekkers. We will enjoy our lunch in one of the beautiful villages and proceed further to Ghorepani. Keep in mind that we are heading to another magnificent and remarkable place. The more we climb up the more we will get views of Himalayan snowy peaks. The walk from Sikha to Ghorepani is all uphill passing small villages like Phalante, Chitre and Deurali. It is a beautiful walk inside rhododendron forests. Once we reach near Ghorepani we should also have breathtaking views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range. Ghorepani is a pretty big village [can taken as a town] with lots of lodges for tourists. This place gives magnificent views of the Himalayas for trekkers.

Mardi Himal Trek is a relatively new trekking route in Annapurna region with spectacular views of the Annapurna Himalayan range. It's a peaceful trekking route with very few trekkers along the way. Though the availability of foods and accommodation on the route is at the bare minimum, Mardi Himal Trekking is still an enjoyable trekking route which requires minimum effort. Mardi Himal Trek is about a week long trip in the Himalayas with stunning views of snowy peaks through small Nepali villages. It is an interesting trek compared to other popular treks in the Annapurna region. The trek in Mardi Himal consist of short ascend or descend every day. The Tea houses on Mardi Himal Trek are basic and offers only the essential items to trekkers. Though the trek lacks number of services, it is one of the best shorts treks away from the crowd and commercial trekking routes. During these best months the sky is generally crystal clear, the views are incredible and the weather is breath taking as well. You will generally have stunning Himalayan views and green scenery during these months. June to September is monsoon season although trekking is still doable in this area. The trails have quite a lot of leeches during monsoon which can be very inconvenient for many trekkers. During this period it rains frequently in the late afternoon, night and early morning that leaves the trail wet and slippery as well. Mardi Himal Trekking is beautiful trek almost throughout the year. The views are simply incredible most of the time. October to December will have more greens in the forest.
