Jomsom Muktinath Trek

Jomsom Muktinath Trek through the valley of Kaligandaki River is full of beauty; you are drawn into a landscape of contrasts with delights every step of the trail. With a little effort, you will be able to make some splendid moments in your life. Trekking to Muktinath is easy but it is stunning. The trail is also known as a pilgrimage trek, it has got hot springs, natural high thundering waterfalls, towering Himalayas and of course hundreds of years old ethnically rich villages. Jomsom Muktinath Trek is also suitable for families planning to trek with children of small ages. Jomsom trek mostly has gentle walking throughout the route with small ups and downs.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmadu, transfer to Hotel

Welcome to the city of temples and the country of Himalayas. Himalayan Leisure Inc. will happily welcome you at the only international airport of Nepal; Tribhuvan International Airport. Our airport representative will be waiting for your arrival with a placard written Himalayan Leisure Inc. outside the airport terminal. From there you will be transferred to the Hotel by a air conditioned private vehicle. Depending on the flight time and activities we will be joining for a cultural dinner at a typical Nepali restaurant. Enjoy cultural shows, singing, dancing and typical Nepali meals before heading back to hotel.

Day 02: Drive [or fly with additional costs] to Pokhara, transfer to Hotel

Your trekking guide will pickup you from hotel in the morning about 6:30. Then you will transfer to tourist bus park to drive to Pokhara. The drive to Pokhara is a scenic experience through small settlements around the sides of Nepalese highway. The drive is about 7 hours with couple of stops on the way. It is a drive through beautiful hillsides, silvering Himalayas and thundering rivers passing rafters and pilgrimages along the road. Enjoy views of several suspension bridges, rope ways and small communities settled on the cliff of the rocks. The drive will pass through several small towns. Enjoy beautiful views of Annapurna Himalayan range before you are welcomed by Pokhara. In the evening enjoy some walks around lakeside and enjoy the beauty of this clean and transparent stunning city.

Day 03: Drive to Nayapul, trek to Tikhedhunga

Enjoy your complimentary morning meal in the city of Lakes; Pokhara. We will then start our drive to Nayapul for the memorable adventure. It's about 1 hour scenic drive with beautiful views of Annapurna and Lamjung Himalayan ranges. The road passes through green hills, rice paddies, thundering Seti river and numerous small settlements. From Nayapul, we will start our flat walk towards Birenthanti from where trekking route to Ghandruk / Chhomrong and Ghorepani separates. From Birenthanti the trail slightly starts to climb up. The trail is pretty easy. Our trekking route passes through different small villages like Matathanti, Ramghai, Sudame and Hille before we reach Tikhedhunga. It is a short and easy day for trekkers.

Day 04: Trek to Ghorepani

One of the main attractions of our trek; Ghorepani is a beautiful village with panoramic views of Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayan ranges. This village is one of the most popular villages in the whole route. Our day starts after having breakfast in Tikhedhunga. Right after we cross Burundi Khola we will climb steep uphill until we pass Ulleri village and reach Banthanti. Enjoying the beautiful views of Fishtail, Annapurna South and Hiunchuli. We will continue our walk through beautiful Rhododendron and Oak forests before we reach Nangethanti for our lunch. Continuing our walk towards the destination we will first reach lower Ghorepani. Trekking about 15 minutes from lower Ghorepani will settle us towards our destination where stunning views of Himalayas are served.

Day 05: Hike to Poon Hill early morning for spectacular views of Himalayas, trek to Tatopani

This is an important day. Early in the morning when stars are shining we will climb towards Poon Hill to enjoy fabulous sunrise over Annapurna and Dhaulagiri Himalayan range. Poon Hill is a view point where more than 300 trekkers visit every day during main season. From here we will be enjoying close views of numerous peaks including Dhaulagiri I, II, III, IV, V, Dhampus Peak, Nilgiri, Barahsikhar, Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Fishtail etc. We will then get back to our hotel where our breakfast will be served. We will then start our trek to Tatopani. The trek is mostly downhill walk until we cross Kaligandaki River. Passing different villages like Deurali, Chitre, Swanta, Phalante, Sikha and Ghara we will reach thundering river. Once the river is crossed the flat road walk is about 20 minutes before we reach Tatopani. Tatopani is small town where we can experience hot spring bathing. This hot spring bathing is one of the beautiful experiences for most trekkers.

Day 06: Trek to Ghasa via Rupche Chhahara [it's an waterfall]

We will enjoy our breakfast in Tatopani and commence our trek to Ghasa. Today, we will be walking gentle uphill trail most of the day. It is a pleasant walk where we will follow recently constructed road most of the time. Sometimes it can be very dusty as well as the road is not paved yet. Continuing our gentle walk we will be passing through villages like Guite, Suwa, Suke Bagar, Dana, Titre and Rupse Chhahara where we will have our delicious lunch in front of huge waterfall. Among these villages Dana is known as world's deepest gorge as the place is between two above 8,000 meter peaks; Annapurna and Dhaulagiri. Once we finish our lunch, we will continue our trek to our destination; Ghasa passing through few settlements like Kabre and Kopchepani. Along the way few tea shops will be met where few cold drinks will be available.

Day 07: Trek to Kalopani

We will enjoy our breakfast in Ghasa before we commence our adventure to Kalopani. This day is also not different from previous day. We will be following the unpaved road that leads to Jomsom and Muktinath during the whole walk. It's pleasant walk on the side of thundering Kaligandaki River. It's gentle uphill trail whole day with short flats and downs. In overall it's an easy day. Continuing the trek we will be passing via Lete where possibly we will enjoy our lunch. Another few hours walk from Lete will take us to Kalopani; a small town surrounded by pine forests. Beautiful Himalayan views are available from Kalopani including incredible views of Annapurna I.

Day 08: Trek to Marpha

After breakfast we will start our another easy day walking on the road. We will be enjoying views of Tukuche and Nilgiri peaks welcoming us for new day. It is little windy day passing different villages like Kokethanti, Larjung and Kobang before we reach Tukuche for our lunch. After lunch we will again commence our adventure to our final destination Marpha. In overall our day will be an easy day walking mostly on the dusty road. The trek mostly passes through the bank of beautiful Kaligandaki river. Marpha is known as delicious apple garden of Nepal. It's also known as apple kingdom. There is also a beautiful monastery in the village that we can explore. It's one of the oldest monastery of the region but this was recently renovated so doesn't look like old.

Day 09: Trek to Kagbeni

We will be served with delicious breakfast in our lodge before we commence another day. On the way we will pass via Jomsom which is the final stop on our return. This will be another windy day of the trek. Basically after mid-day there will be strong wind in the whole region. The trek will give us beautiful views of few Himalayan peaks. Finally in about 2 hours from Jomsom we will reach Kagbeni for overnight stay. Kagbeni also serves few apple gardens popular for delicious apples. Kagbeni is the only town in the whole region where you can see some green. Kagbeni is also the gateway for Upper Mustang Trekking.

Day 10: Trek to Muktinath

We will start our adventure having mouth watering meal in Kagbeni. The whole route is uphill, some gentle and some steep though the trail is quite easy to follow. With beautiful views of snowy peaks of the Himalayas we will pass through several human settlements. Most of the time we will be walking though dusty road and jeeps will be passing by quite often. This region is known as Himalayan cold desert, there is not proper vegetation in the region. Once we reach Muktinath, we will go to visit Muktinath Temple, one of the highly holy temple of the region. In the evening we will walk around the town if interested then prepare for follow day.

Day 11: Trek back to Jomsom

Our trek will start after having a good meal in Muktinath. We will start walking downhill via Jharkot, Khingar and Eklebhatti. The trail is mostly down until Eklebhatti however it's very dusty due to strong wind after mid-day. From Jomsom we will also have enchanting views of Nilgiri peak too. Jomsom is last place for many trekkers in this region. There is a airstrip and also buses going to Beni and Pokhara starts from here. Many trekkers who are time bounded or want to avoid walking on the roads conclude their trek here. Jomsom is a small town with modern facilities available.

Day 12: Fly to Pokhara, explore Pokhara in the afternoon

We will first enjoy our last meal in the Himalayas. We will then proceed to airport to catch our flight to Pokhara. The flight is beautiful beautiful and flies between the Himalayas. It can be taken as a mountain flight. The views from the windows are unimaginable. Once we complete 20-25 minutes flight we will get our transport to take us to Hotel. You can enjoy free afternoon or go for a sightseeing. There are some remarkable places in Pokhara like world peace Pagoda, Matepani Monastery, International Mountain Museum, Devi's Falls etc. Alternatively, you can go for boating in Phewa Lake. In the evening you can enjoy last night dinner with your staffs and celebration of your successful adventure.

Day 13: Drive [or fly with extra costs] back to Kathmandu

We will follow Prithvi Highway through beautiful rivers, hills and small Nepalese settlements. The drive will take about 7 hours to drop us in Kathmandu. Form the tourist bus park you will be transferred to your hotel. In the evening you can explore the town probably buying souvenirs.

Day 14: Departure back from Kathmandu

Enjoy your last morning meal in this beautiful Himalayan country before we conclude our memorable Himalayan experience. We will drop you to the airport prior to your flight.
