The guide will pick us up from the hotel in the morning and we will drive to the airport. We will check in at the airport and fly to Lukla. It's going to be an adventurous flight. This 25 minutes flight is a daring experience for most people. Lukla airport is known as one of the top 10 dangerous airports in the world as the plane approaches through a narrow gorge. Sometimes, the flight is bumpy in windy conditions. Lukla is the starting point to trek to Everest Base Camp.
Upon reaching Lukla, we will walk to the lodge where we may take a quick breakfast, do some repacking if needed, and also meet our porter. The porter is going to be our strength for the next 11 days. We will then start our trek to Phakding which is approximately 200 meters down from Lukla and takes about 3 hours.
Note: During the peak trekking seasons, the flights to Lukla are rerouted from Ramechhap Airport, an airport at approximately 3.5 hours distance from Kathmandu.

Upon waking up, we will have a hot breakfast in the lodge and then start our trek to Everest View Hotel (3,880M). This hotel is the most famous hiking spot for trekkers acclimatizing in Namche Bazaar. The climb is pretty steep but it's highly rewarding.
The first part of the hiking until the national park headquarters office is pretty steep. This hike takes about half an hour. From here you will see excellent views of Mount Everest along with several other Himalayan peaks such as Cholatse, Tabuche, Kangtega, Thamserku, Amadablam, Nuptse, etc. It's an excellent viewpoint. We will continue further for about 1.5 hours to reach Everest View Hotel which is known as the hotel at the highest altitude. You can see breathtaking views of the hotel area.
Note: In Namche Bazaar, there are several options available to spend an acclimatization day such as a hike to Everest View Hotel, a hike to the twin villages of Khumjung and Khunde, a hike to Thame, a hike to National Park headquarters, a walk around the village or resting at the hotel. The trail starts with gentle climbing until we reach Lobuche Pass, here we will make a steep climb for less than an hour and then descend to Gorakshep, the last village of the whole region. We will check in at the lodge, leave our stuff and take a quick lunch before we start our hike to Everest Base Camp. This is the most important day of the trek.
The Everest Base Camp Trek from Gorakshep is a mix of small ups and downs over the Khumbu glacier. Most of the time, we will be walking over the glacier on a rocky trail. It's a beautiful hike surrounded by several 7000 and 8000-meter peaks such as Nuptse, Lhotse, Pumori, and Mount Everest itself. It's an amazing day where it feels like we are out of the earth, it feels like we are beyond the imagination, beyond the horizon. We will spend some time walking around the base camp and make a return to Gorakshep following the same trail.
Note: In Everest Base Camp, there are no lodges and no meals/accommodation is available. It's a place over the glacier and facilitates a camping place for mountaineers heading to the Everest Expedition.

Kala Patthar (which translates as a black rock) is a marvelous viewpoint located above Gorakshep. Kalapatthar offers a panoramic view of numerous Himalayan peaks of the Khumbu region in 360 degrees. This is a wonderful place for sunset and sunrise views where you can witness the golden rays over the Lhotse and Nuptse ridges.
We will then descend back to Gorakshep and take a hot breakfast before we start our journey back to Pangboche. We follow the same trail until Thukla where we will take the route on the right towards Pheriche village where we will stop for lunch. We descend further towards Imja Khola and reach the trail that goes towards Dingboche. We continue the downhill walk to Somare and finally reach Pangboche.
Note: Travelers with time-tight schedules or those hesitating to walk down the same way take a chopper from Gorakshep to Lukla or directly to Kathmandu. This literally saves 2-3 days of walking. This itinerary is widely known as Everest Base Camp Chopper Return Trek.

FAQ For Everest Base Camp Trek
March, April, May, October, and November is the best time for this trek. The views are incredible with clear bluish skies during the main travel months. The months of December, January, and February is going to be pretty cold as it will be the mid-winter season. June, July, August, and early September are monsoon months so it will be rainy and not much convenient for walking.
EBC Trekking is doable throughout the trek however it's always best to visit during the main travel season for the best experiences.
EBC Trek is a high-altitude trekking located in the Khumbu region in Nepal. This is one of the amazing treks which is visited by thousands of people every year. This trek is approximately 130 kilometers long (about 80 miles) that starts in Lukla, goes all the way to Everest Base Camp, and again back to Lukla. EBC Trek is known for its spectacular scenery, towering Himalayas, rich Sherpa culture, thousands of years old Monasteries, Yeti (snowman ape), thundering rivers, waterfalls, glaciers, and the popular Everest Base Camp itself. You can expect an unforgettable experience in the Himalayas guided by our experienced trekking guide. You can expect a beautiful journey in the Himalayas that will give you a lifelong memory.
It's considered a hard trekking route mainly because you will be spending several days above 4000 meters. The trek is famous among travelers of all fitness levels. Trek to EBC is once in a lifetime experience. The 15 days tour is highly rewarding with tremendous views. Even though the trek is at a moderate level until you reach 4000 meters (above Pangboche), it gets harder and harder as you climb higher elevations. Since there is opposite relation between high altitude and Oxygen level, the higher you go the lower the Oxygen level gets. This is the main reason that the trek is difficult for most people. If your body easily adjusts to high altitude or if you have previous high-altitude trekking experience, you will find the trek moderate.
The price of the trek depends on several factors such as meals, accommodation level, selection of the guide, optional porter addon service, accommodation option in Kathmandu, duration of the trek, personal expenses, tipping, etc. One can expect to pay anywhere above USD 1000 per person to finish the 12 days of trekking. The main costs involved are meals, accommodation, guides, porters, and domestic flights. There are always extra costs involved which may include drinks, battery charging, WiFi and internet, drinking water, hot shower, horse services, tipping, etc. This is not included in our Mount Everest Base Camp Trek.
No, it's not possible to carry Oxygen with us on the trek. There are several reasons why it's not possible to carry Oxygen such as the flights don't allow carrying any compressed cylinders, we will need 1 separate porter to carry only the cylinder which will increase the cost of the trek, 99.99% of people do not need emergency Oxygen and the lodges above 4000 meters have Oxygen stored in stock. In our 10 years of business, we had to use Oxygen only 1 time in Lobuche which was also locally arranged. None of the agencies carry Oxygen on the trail with them, it's always arranged locally.
Yes, all our programs/tours in the Everest region include return flights to Lukla. The flight is approximately 25 minutes long and may have several turbulences. It's a scenic flight on a small Twin Otter or Dornier airplane that carries approximately 15-16 people. All our packages in the Everest region include domestic flight tickets.
Note: It's worth noting that in recent years the airlines have started to operate Lukla flights from Ramechhap Airport during the main season. This is mainly to reduce air traffic at Kathmandu Airport and reduce flight delays. Ramechhap Airport is approximately a 4-hour drive (135 Kilometers) from Kathmandu. In such cases, we will arrange the shared transportation without additional fees to you.

Had an amazing time on our Everest Base Camp trek! Our guide, Lok, took care of every detail and made sure we had everything we needed. He knew the route like the back of his hand and had us on the perfect pace for the entire trek.
We had debated about hiring a guide as we are experienced backpackers and thought it might not be necessary. But after experiencing the trek with a guide, I 100% recommend this is the way to go.
Amazing adventure of a lifetime!
