Mardi Himal Trek is an amazing trekking route gaining popularity as the alternative for Poon Hill Trekking. Mardi Himal Trek is a moderate trekking route that takes you to the beautiful villages of Mardi and Dhampus. It’s a trekking route that is relatively new and unheard of. The reward of going on this adventure will be worth it. This trek features scenic views, a new route, and a chance to meet people from all over the world.
This is a great route. An alternative route for Ghorepani Trek; Mardi Himal Trek is known for its spectacular landscapes & green forests. A visit to the High Camp for panoramic views is not to be ever.
The trek itself lasts for a week. The Tea houses on Mardi Himal Trek are basic and offer only the basic services to trekkers. The route is not so commercialized like in other popular routes of the Annapurna region but still, it is one of the best shorts treks away from the hustle and bustle of the other trekking routes in the area. The Mardi Himal Base camp is situated under the glorious Machhapuchhre AKA Fishtail peak. The route looks tremendous during March – April when the rhododendron forest has blossomed.

We will take breakfast at our hotel and catch our bus to Pokhara. This is approximately 8 hours drive through the beautiful hillsides, the towering Himalayas and thundering rivers, and pilgrimages alongside the road. In the evening, we will be visiting the lakeside area if time permits.
It is recommended to fly to Pokhara if you are looking for a comfortable way of traveling. It’s about 20-25 minutes of flight.
Kande is situated on the top of a hill and offers excellent Himalayan views. We will approach the Australian camp and then proceed to Pothana for our lunch. It takes approximately 1.5 hours to reach Deurali from Pothana. We will be walking inside the forests of oak, maple, hemlock, and rhododendron. It’s a beautiful and leisurely walk.
We will be walking inside the forests almost for the whole day. The forest looks beautiful during March – April when the Rhododendron flowers blossoms. This is another pleasant day for us letting us walk in the peaceful route. We will stop in the Forest camp, the only stop for lunch before we proceed to Low camp for the overnight stay. We will have some occasional views of Himalayan peaks. This is very small places with only a couple of lodges opened for providing basic meals and accommodation to trekkers.
We have a pleasant day here. Once we ascend to Badal Danda, we get awesome views of magnificent Himalayan peaks. The higher we go, the beautiful it gets. Once we cross Badal Danda, we see no vegetations and plants around. The trail continues through green grasslands of the high region with a few Rhododendron trees. Travelers often spot the national bird Nepal called Himalayan Monal; also known as the Impeyan Monal (Danphe in Nepali) in this area. This is a colorful Himalayan bird represented as the national bird of Nepal.
We will enjoy Himalayan sunrise from this heavenly place. Once we take breakfast, we will start ascending to the Upper View Point, the most magnificent place of this program. The trail heading to Upper View Point is well marked with signs on the grassland. It’s going to be a steep but worthy climbing. In summer season this area is full of yaks and sheep along with several yak herder’s huts.
Amazing views of Machhapuchhre, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Hiunchuli, Annapurna I, etc. are seen from here.
We will descend to Forest Camp from where the trail to Landruk separates. Landruk is a beautiful village popular for an overnight stay during the Annapurna Base Camp Trek. It’s a steep downhill walk from Forest camp and takes about 2 hours to reach Landruk village. Overall, it’s an easy and relaxed day where we will be walking downhill most of the time.
We descend to Modi River, make a cross and reach Syauli Bazaar; one a very popular stop among travelers heading to Annapurna Base Camp and Ghandruk village. Once we continue from Syauli Bazaar, it’s a mostly flat walk on the dirt road. We will catch our transport from Nayapul then continue our drive to Pokhara that takes about 1.5 hours.
We will follow the same highway through beautiful rivers, hills and small Nepalese settlements. The drive will take about 8 hours to drop us in Kathmandu. Form the tourist bus park you will be transferred to the hotel. In the evening you can explore the town probably buying souvenirs for friends and family members.
We will drive you to the airport approximately 3 hours before your flight time. The airport is small and has only 1 terminal. It’s time to say goodbye until we meet again!
Meals and Accommodation: Mardi Himal Trekking is a complete tea house-based route hence we will be sleeping and eating in the lodges. Regarding the cities like Kathmandu and Pokhara, we provide 3-star category hotel accommodation with only breakfast. The lodges on the trek will be mostly shared bathroom / shared toilet while in 1/2 places we may provide you rooms with private toilet (depending on availability). Additionaly, it’s worth noting that the Mardi Himal Trek is relatively new trekking route hence the lodges are basic comparing to other popular routes of Annapurna.
The meals on the trek will be mostly locally prepared using local ingredients most of the time however Kathmandu and Pokhara offer a wide selection of meals in basic to high standard luxury lounges. On the trek, the number of meal items will be limited to a small number and the tastes might not be similar to the actual item; pizza may not taste like pizza.
Best Season for the Trek: Spring and autumn are considered better for Mardi Himal Trek. The best time to trek is usually during the dry season, from September to early December and early March to early June. The trek is done throughout the year by lots of people however monsoon season is not the ideal one as the clouds usually cover the mountains during this time. Autumn ensures a clear and dry high-mountain pass with a good chance of a clear view of towering Himalayan peaks.
The best months for Mardi Himal Trekking are March, April, May, early June, September, October, November, and December. The Spring Season begins in March and runs until May, while the Fall season runs from September through November. The main reason for having a narrow window is that the mountains on each side of the valley will be filled with snow and ice and can prove treacherous for trekkers.
The prices are different based on the number of people traveling together. The larger the group size, the lower the price will be. For example, the price for 1 person will be higher than the price per person based on 2 people. Similarly, comparing to the prices per person for 2 – 5 people traveling together will be higher than the prices per person for 6 – 9 people traveling together. However, the prices you will see at the time of the booking will be final regardless of price changes in the future.
We accept all major currencies such as USD, EUR, CAD, AUD, SGD, MYR, GBP, THB, CHF, JPY, HKD, etc. Credit card payments are accepted only in USD. We also accept bank transfers, direct remittance services (Western Union, Moneygram), etc.
March – early June, and September – December are considered the best months for this trek. It’s possible to try to trek in mid-winter but the trails can be icy and slippery due to snowfall. The trek is done by a wide number of people even in the monsoon season (late June to early September) however this is not the ideal time.
The trek has free cancellation 60 days before departure. Any cancellations received within 60 days of departure will incur 15% cancellation fees of the total tour price.
We will be eating and sleeping in the lodges for the whole trek (Day 3 to Day 8 lunch). Generally, rice, noodles, pasta, vegetables, curry, potatoes, eggs, sandwiches, burgers, etc. are available. Meat is available in few places and it’s highly recommended to avoid it due to hygiene reasons.
The lodges will have twin sharing rooms. In most cases, we will provide you a private room or twin sharing rooms however in rare cases you may need to share the rooms with other travelers (especially if you are traveling alone).

Yes, you can do this trek with kids above 6 years old. The trek is not suitable for kids below 6. Make sure your kid is active and fit to join the adventure, we also recommend additional 1/2 additional days to make it more comfortable.
We have very experienced guides at the company. We have guides experienced for at least 7 years to 22 years. All our guides are the Ministry of Tourism trained and licensed by the Nepal Government.
I and my friend did a trek to Mardi Himal in December with Upendra which was organized by Himalayan Leisure, Inc. We booked a service trek with a private guide. The guide was very helpful and knowledgeable and the price was very reasonable. We only took the guide and paid for the expenses ourselves, this went fine from starting to the end.
Trek went great. The company took care of everything. I would be willing to book them again.
Not the most physically demanding trek and great for those who enjoy forest trails. Went with older folks and everyone had the time of their lives.
